Sree Thakur Satyananda

Bhagwan comes down from his heavenly abode to this earth in every era. This is not a mere belief instilled by the scriptures and puranas; this is the Truth. In the stream of divine incarnations Sree Thakur Satyananda is the most revered incarnation of the present era. Shri Ram, Shri Krishna, Shri Chaitanya, Shri Ramkrishna - all are different incarnations of the one Supreme Being. That He reincarnated himself again as Sree Satyananda, is a proven truth. These five Avataras manifested themselves to establish the everlasting Truth. Sree Satyananda came to establish a strong link between the old and the new.

Sree Satyananda immersed himself in deep meditation for almost 13 years and emerged out of it as a realized soul in 1939 and initiated numerous devotees in the stream of Ramakrishna cult. His ancestral house in Suri was converted into Shri Ramakrishna Ashram. Gradually several such Ashrams were established by him in Suri, Dubrajpur, Batikar, Nrisinghapur, Kandi, Dumka, Rampurhat, Baranagar etc.

In his Ashram there are separate sections for male and female Sannyasis (ascetics). He adopted eleven young girls. Led by Sree Archanapuri Ma, his Manaskanya (spiritual daughter), they were all educated, reared and led by him towards spiritual life of renunciation. Archana Ma, who is venerated as the author of the epic 'Shri Ramakrishna Mangal-kavya' and books like 'Janani Saradeshwari', 'Mahabharater Koekti Charitra' along with 4000 songs, numerous poems, drama-scripts and articles, is the Sanghajanani (beacon) of the Satyananda Sangha (cult). The cultural aspect of the Ashram includes music, drama, poetry etc. all of which centers around Archana Ma. Sree Thakur had accorded special priority to 'Mothers' in every action of the Ashram.

Sree Thakur Satyananda initiated his parents, brothers, sister-in-law, sister, brother-in-law, nephew and several other relatives into Sannyasis life. This is a rare phenomenon after Gautam Buddha.

A sensitive poet and philosopher, Sree Satyananda was sincerely responsive towards the facts raised by modem sciences; so much so that he would research, experiment and apply scientific measures for spiritual Sadhana. His collected works in English and Bengali are available as 'Samagra Rachanaboli' and 8 volumes have been published so far which include his works like 'World Philosophy', World Psychology', 'World Ethics', 'Messiah of Vedanta' etc. A writer-lyricist par excellence he penned more than 7000 songs along with hundreds of poems and essays.

His devotees have experienced the divine power of Sree Thakur Satyananda. Silently, like the dew drops, his blessings soak the believers with contented bliss. 'Smritir Teerthe Satyananda', 'Sonar Smriti', 'Aloukik Kripamoy Satyananda', 'Gopal Sona' like publications of the Ashram contains numerous such anecdotes.

Sree Thakur left for his heavenly abode in 1969 after having led an exemplary ascetic's life surrounded by devoted followers.
